Art in the Desert
Many hundreds – or perhaps thousands – of years ago, the Kumeyaay people who once inhabited the Anza-Borrego Desert carved and painted mysterious lines, sun bursts, and human figures on cave walls and boulders. You may stumble upon these artifacts as you trek through Blue Sun Cave, Solstice Cave, or Carrizo Gorge, but really, the exact locations of these ancient artworks are not published to avoid the possibility of vandalism. For now, content yourself with looking up pictures of Anza Borrego rock art on the internet… and instead, visit modern-day desert art that you can see in person at The Borrego Art Institute.
